TheCC: Jerusalema E Ncha “Super-HIT”

Review by John Angelo Baloyi
Requested by TheChoirChannel

From Jerusalema E Ncha’s 2010 album comes a super hit song titled “Seteng Sediba Samadi” which has all the trademark elements of the “JERUSALEMA” sound. Although the entire album leaves nothing to be admired, it is as thou Mme Lucky Nkagisang wanted you to buy the CD only for this track, which is an AWESOME purchase and a great track to be enjoyed years from 2010.

I would have spent R300.00 or more on this track alone, that’s how cool it is. Everyone who has listened to my copy has asked where they can by the album, which is a true testimony of the excellence of this song.

The track wastes no time at tugging at your heart and musical strings as it gets to the point within 30seconds and by the first minute you are introduced to what poetic praise the song has on offer. Mme Lucky is the voice behind the poetic renditions and you can feel that she went back to the 80’s when they released “Re Boke Ka Pelo” with songs like “Halempotsa” where she gave that brilliant poetic praise and testimony.

At 01:20sec you get to appreciate Mme Lucky’s voice, not only as a lead singer but as a praise poet, when she says “Alleluyaaaaaa…O Morena, Oa Marena….Jesuuuuus!” trust me….Oa I neela ko Jerusalema E Ncha…ka mme antsoetse…hahahaha! I even have that part of the song as a ringtone. LOL.

But what strikes me the most is the calmness of the song and how everything works for the choir’s music. Mme Lucky’s lead voice just keeps on giving until you cant ask anymore. Then when you think you have the song all figured out. She (Mme Lucky) lands a serious vocal affection bomb at 03:48, as your ears hear…. “Tho-tho-thom….. tho-tho-thom”…lol this women is sick (as in awesome). To think that she is now an old lady and she can still be "fierce like this" musically. WOW!

I particularly like her signature musical affectations on this track which reminds me of her old vocal abilities when she was just lead singer and not choir master, producer, composer, etc.

Kethabile by Barorisi Ba Morena

Barorisi Ba Morena sings "Kethbile", a hymn which still has a lot more punch than some of the song being recorded and released by choirs. This songs can illustrate the choirs former glory in composition and arrangement.

Ka Letsatsi by Balatedi Ba Morena

Three Choirs, #3 English Songs

We have selected three English songs from the albums of Balatedi Ba Morena, Jerusalema E Ncha and Balatedi Ba Morena. Tell us which version is your favorite?

This special was inspired by Barorisi Ba Morena's song Glory

Glory was a very successful English hymn from the group Barorisi Ba Morena. However what most people do not know is that, this song is influenced largely by Jimmy Swaggart who also influenced a lot of Jacob Tlou (composer and founder of Barorisi Ba Morena).

We just like how the choir was ahead of its time musically. Listen carefully to the melody and how the choir goes up and down during the "Ahh" just before "Glory". Kinder cool. Typical of Barorisi, Father and Son, take on the lead vocals and they do not disappoint.

The other songs are from,
Jerusamela ENcha, Daniel

and
Balatedi Ba Morena, We Shall Serve The Lord

Please Note: Gospel Choirs interested in having their music of TheChoirChannel should email thechoirchannel(at)gmail.com, for more information. We always looking for quality choirs to feature on our line-up.
