INSIDEPOSTOLA: JUNIOR BARORISI (CLASSIC)

The first album by this group was awesome. It has only 8 (eight) tracks but trust me they are still the best compositions to-date, earning their place in our classics collection.

They songs include:

SIDE ONE: Moemedi, Moshe, U Jesu Wami, Communication.

SIDE TWO: Lerato, Lefu, Lekunutu and Satane

Lets review shall we. When we listen to songs such as “Communication”, they more relevant today as they were then and musically the quality of the group was so unique that it did not sound like Barorisi Ba Morena.  Take a song such as “Lerato” which was favorite of mine and copied by many choirs across the country. That’s how choirs knew they had a hit on their hands. Everyone wanted to sing the songs – copy and perform the original. Some choirs would perform the song so well that you would be convinced its the original choir. Good old days hey?

Then we have “Lefu” yet another successful track which was perform at funeral and such. Great composition, arrange and production including the fact that lead vocals were great. When that the other lead vocals with a sweet voice guy signals “Jeso Oitse” my goodness… perfection. Oh man that first-part going “Lekukutu Le Morena”, also a great track which sounded simple but was well executed. What I loved most is that you heard what they were singing about.

‘Moemedi” came at the heels of MAJLEFA’s MOEMEDI (more on that on our next post). Junior’s Moemedi was excellent, very unique and a perfect showcase of that talent pool. There is a vocal affectation on one of the female leads and I remember we used to make fun of her and say ‘Ampiki Moya o Halalelang” whereas he says “Aha hihi Moya o Halalelang”.

Eish…kegopola step sa “Moshe” on stage as “Holy Ocean” – one the best choirs from Limpopo in the 90’s, as they performed this track.

Fast forward to the current Junior Barorisi….very different musically!
